Press release
On 11 October 2012, the Romanian Association for Health Promotion (ARSP) together with the Soros Foundation launched the first “Research and Information Center on Immigrant Integration.” in Romania.
The launch took place at the Soros Foundation’s Public Center and was attended by the representatives of the General Inspectorate for Immigration, the institutions which are active in the field of immigration and the integration of foreign nationals in Romania, non-governmental organizations, foreign nationals’ associations and other actors interested in immigration in Romania.
The project is financed by the European Fund for the Integration of third-country nationals through the general European Union program “Solidarity and Management of Migration Flows” (ref: IF/11.01-03.01), which is managed in Romania by the Ministry of Administration and Interior – with the General Inspectorate for Immigration as the Contracting Authority.
The project targets the creation and development of a research and documentation center in the field of immigrants’ integration, the creation of a multidisciplinary network of researchers and the elaboration of a study in the field of integration. The center will also create a network of organizations, researchers and experts in the field of integration and will facilitate partnerships between them. At the center there will be a physical and a virtual library with relevant materials and documents in the field of integration, specialized literature and studies and national and international research, which will be available to all interested parties. Similar centers exist in most European Union countries, contributing in a significant way to the understanding of immigration, a topical phenomenon on the European public agenda.
The project team will propose a new approach to the conceptual framework and new research instruments for the study of the processes of immigrants’ integration in Romanian society. The center’s experts will conduct studies in the field of integration reflecting the measure in which recent EU developments regarding policy and practice in the field of immigrants’ integration can be found in the policies, legislation and practices of Romania.
The center will host an online communication platform, distribute a quarterly newsletter and organize various meetings (workshops, seminars, conferences, etc.) during which the results and data obtained will be disseminated on a wide scale.
The research center will contribute to consolidating cooperation and consultation in the field through the development of partnerships and the exchange of good practices between relevant national and EU actors and have a decisive role in improving the quality of the knowledge about immigrants and their integration in society.
