A new conference on “Migration and Gender” in Luxembourg
Mariana Andrei - Communication Coordinator
9 June 2015
The 15th International Conference in migration, "Migration and Gender", will be held in Luxembourg between 18-20 June 2015. The event is organised by Institut Integration und Partizipation der Hochschule für Soziale Arbeit (FHNW) and will be held at Centre de Documentation sur les Migrations Humaines CDMH in Dudelange, Luxembourg.
Gender, along race and class, is a concept often related to inequality. At the same time it has a central importance in the context of migration. Starting with the 1980s the social research on migration and gender has become more and more differentiated, particularly with respect to life situations and the image of the woman migrant. Since the end of the 1990s the specific conditions for socialization of youth (men and women) from migrant families have also become of interest for researchers. In the same period they spoke about feminizing migration, as a result of a higher demand for domestic work and care services.
During the conference the relations between migration and gender will be analysed and discussed from an interdisciplinary and international perspective and in different contexts.
The topics of interest for the conference include:
Gender relations in the context of migration;
Approaches in gender and migration research;
Media and public representations of gender and migration;
Identity in the context of migration;
Flight migration and gender;
Migration and gender in cultures of memory: exhibitions, museums and public space.
Registration is possible by filling in the online form available at http://www.migrationskonferenz.ch/conference/registration. The participation fee for the entire conference period is 100 euro.
