The Bucharest City Hall, a partner in the European DELI project (Diversity in the Economy and Local Integration) coordinated by the Council of Europe and co-funded by the European Commission, organised on 21 January the first workshop of inclusive entrepreneurship dedicated to the issue of integrating aliens in local life.
This event is the first of a series of four workshops to be organised between January - March 2015. An workshop will be dedicated to the representatives of banks in Romania, another one to large companies and the last one to immigrants who managed to successfully integrate in Romania.
The DELI project, to be completed in June this year, aims to promote the integration of immigrants' businesses in the local economy by: adopting policies and practices to support entrepreneurs, including those with a migrant past, promoting the inclusion of these entrepreneurs in the pool of current suppliers and identifying potential legal stimuli, assessing the possibility to include social and equity clauses in public contracts etc.
The project is funded by the General Directorate for Home Affairs within the European Commission (EC), through the European integration fund. The other 9 partner cities are: Dublin - Ireland, Munich - Germany, Cartagena and Getxo - Spain, Lisbon - Portugal, London - UK, Reggio Emilia - Italy, Rotterdam – the Netherlands, Vienna – Austria. Unlike the other municipalities participating in the project, Bucharest lacks a culture of diversity and the concern for the equal access of citizens to information and business opportunities. The project is important exactly for drawing attention upon the importance of valuing the economic potential of immigrants and particularly of small and medium investors.
