The paper "Comparing and Measuring Integration" was written for an international conference organised by the Ministry of Integration of Baden-Württemberg, in the context of the 60th anniversary of Baden-Württemberg Land.

The paper first presents how a definition of integration can be developed in such a way that it reflects the mission of various actors in the area of immigrants' integration. It then argues that although integration may be essentially local, not all policies are local. Finally it gives an example of how integration policies can be compared and measured using the MIPEX – the Migrant Integration Policy Index.

Immigrants' integration in Ontario is one of the articles signed by Prof. Dr. Harald Bauder and Omar Lujan. The authors describe how Ontario develops and implements integration programmes by partnerships between municipal and federal authorities, the community and larger and smaller NGOs, as well as specific ethnic organisations.

Another article signed by Prof. Dr. Christian Joppke presents integration and immigration policies in Germany and the United Kingdom. According to the author, immigration is still just as unpopular but necessary in Europe considering the unavoidable population ageing.

Other articles refer to immigrants' integration in Italy (Lombardia), France or the US, some being written in German, others in English.
