Conference: Facing a New "Age of Migration"? Methodological Challenges, Conceptual Questions, Political Entanglements (Bucharest, 1 – 2 September 2016)

ESA Research Network 35 "Sociology of Migration" is holding this week its third mid-term conference in Bucharest, from 1 to 2 September 2016.

The conference Facing a New "Age of Migration"? Methodological Challenges, Conceptual Questions, Political Entanglements is organized in Romania in collaboration with the Research Institute for Quality of Life (Romanian Academy) and the Faculty of Sociology and Social Work (University of Bucharest).

The main theme of the Conference is to reflect on the question whether or not European countries are currently facing a “new” age of migration and on the methodological and conceptual challenges posed to migration research within the current developments. Thematically, this conference will bring together various analytical and methodological approaches in refugee and migration studies.

The keynote speeches will be delivered by prof. Bridget Anderson (Centre on Migration, Policy and Society - COMPAS, University of Oxford, UK) and prof. Michael Collyer (University of Sussex, UK).

The conference will cover the following topics:
  • Borders, refugee crisis and migration policies;
  • Highly skilled migration;
  • Focus on temporary migration;
  • Quantitative data and their use;
  • Unobserved flows;
  • Origin country, migration and transnationalism;
  • Youth migration
