2014 Annual IMISCOE Conference in Madrid
Carmen Munteanu - Communication Coordinator
8 January 2014
The IMISCOE 11th Annual Conference on "Immigration, Social Cohesion and Social Innovation" will be held between 27-29 August in Madrid, Spain. This year's conference is organized by IMISCOE Research Network and Instituto Universitario de Estudios sobre Migraciones (IEM), of the Universidad Pontifica Commillas in Madrid, which will host the event.
The conference is open both to IMISCOE network members and to other professionals interested in immigration, social cohesion and social innovation.
The theme was chosen by organizers following the economic crisis which affected immigrants in Europe and the long term consequences upon their integration prospects. Rising unemployment has generated labour and income insecurity and has increased the vulnerability of persons and families of immigrant origin. The public policies aimed at immigrant integration have undergone adjustments and budget constraints, and their redefinition has questioned their effectiveness. In this context, social innovation can emerge as a potential solution to immigrants' issues.
The call for summaries and papers will be published mid-January 2014. Submissions can only be done via the online system, with the deadline for abstracts on 1 April 2014. Full papers will have to be uploaded to the conference online system no later than 1 August 2014.
