European Modules on Migrant Integration - Final Report

Carmen Munteanu - Communications Coordinator

19 May 2014

The European Commission published the final report on the modules on migrant integration in February. The modules are essentially good practices identified at national, regional or local level, structured in three areas: introductory and language courses, a strong commitment by the host society and the participation of immigrants in collective life. The modules were prepared by experts in the Union member states and they aim to provide a common language and a reference framework which facilitate knowledge exchange and positive practices in the area of integration.

The European modules are mainly directed at the national authorities of the Member States, as integration is primarily a national competence and the implementation of integration policies and measures at the regional and local level falls under the responsibility of the Member States. The modules - which are sets of good practice - are transferable to various local and regional contexts and include measures directed both at host country structures and at migrants.

The implementation of the European modules could help to increase the quality of policies and practices and the performance of public service providers across the EU in the three given areas: introductory and language courses, the host society’s commitment towards immigrants and their active participation in all aspects of collective life. The final report can be downloaded and read at http://ec.europa.eu.
