The International Human Rights Day, held worldwide on 10 December each year, celebrates the day when the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This happened in 1948 but the Human Rights Day was officially established on 4 December 1950 when the General Assembly adopted Resolution 423(V) whereby it invited all member states as well as other interested organisations to celebrate this day.
Since that day that "common standard for all peoples and all nations", which all countries of the world should "strive through progressive, national and international measures to acknowledge and to apply" became the topic of discussions on 10 December.
The International Human Rights Day is celebrated by various political, cultural and social events worldwide and Romania is not an exception, bringing to the attention of Romanians the fundamental human rights: the right to life, freedom, freedom of opinion.
