Carmen Munteanu - Communications Coordinator
4 July 2013
During 25-27 August 2013, the 10th conference IMISCOE will take place in Malmö in Sweden. The event is organized by the Institute for Migration, Diversity and Welfare (MIM) and the Department for Global Political Studies (GPS) from the University of Malmö. The topic of this years’ conference is centred on connections between the economic crisis and the profound causes of migration, the migration models from different European countries and the way several analytical approaches can be made.
During the workshops, the multiple aspects of the world crisis will be approached, starting with the financial or political aspects and closing with socio-cultural ones. In this respect, professor Timothy Hatton from the Australian National University, one of the experts in the field of economic history and applied economics, whose research interests include the causes and effects of international migration, as well as policies in the immigration and asylum field, will speak on the first day of the conference.
Another event topic will be the current tendency of states to manage and control migration. Professor Joaquin Arango, from the Complutense University in Madrid, as director of the Ortega y Gasset Center for the Study of Migration and Citizenship, is invited to this event, where he will share with the public his research interests in the migration and integration policies, in the illegal migration field and the relation between immigration and labor markets.
Everyone interested in migration and integration can attend the conference – registered members, students, researchers, practitioners, civil society organizations, politicians. You can register online for the conference and workshops until August 1 2013.
