The Republic of Moldova in the Attention of Romanian Members of Parliament

Carmen Munteanu - Communications Coordinator

4 December 2013

A draft bill has recently been presented in the Parliament which makes the Republic of Moldova a priority for the Romanian State. The civic platform "Actiunea 2012" is the initiator of this draft bill, which benefited from the support of the Chamber of Deputies Commission for Romanian communities abroad.

The provisions of this new law include: an easier procedure for citizens of the Republic of Moldova to obtain entry visa for Romania and the integration of Moldavians in the socio-cultural life of Romania. "I believe this initiative is an attempt to give back to Romanians on the other side of the Prut river the rights they should have always had. Enjoying the same rights as your brothers, although some had the historical chance to be Romanian citizens in their home country, would be a success beyond any criticism made by sceptical persons or political critics", said Aurelian Mihai, member of the Chamber of Deputies Commission for Romanian communities abroad.

The initiators of the framework law regulating the status of Republic of Moldova citizens in Romania include 36 senators and deputies of several political parties in Romania. The way how this draft bill will be adopted is still to be agreed.
