SC Quando Project Consult S.R.L. in a partnership with the Association for Woman Promotion in Romania (Asociaţia pentru Promovarea Femeii din România) and Instituto de Formación Integral, Spain organized in January an awareness raising seminar on the effects of labour migration upon children and elderly people left home. The event was part of the project „Femeile din mediul rural şi orizontul pe piața muncii - Orizont_FemRural” ("Women in the rural environment and their employment horizon - Orizont_FemRural"), co-financed from the European Social Fund through the Sectoral Operational Programme Human Resources Development 2007-2013.
The "Awareness raising guide for promoting health and preventing health risks upon children and elderly people left home by labour migrants" was launched within the event.
It is estimated that about 80,000 children are left home by parents who went abroad to work. The guide therefore targets first of all persons who work or who plan to go abroad to work and who leave home their children or elderly relatives they should take care of. Secondly the guide can be a useful information support both for specialists working in social services targeted to children or elderly people, and for any other persons wishing to address the labour migration issue and its consequences upon more vulnerable family members (children and the elderly).
