The third edition of the Sociology Forum organized by International Sociological Association, with the theme "The Futures We Want: Global Sociology and the Struggle for a Better World", will be held between 10 - 14 July 2016 in Vienna.
The topics covered will attempt to respond to a multitude of questions generated by social transformations of contemporary world, by the way how complex social interactions model the world we live in and prospects for the future.
Migration is the focus of the Research Committee on Migration Sociology, which will organise several sessions within the ISA Forum, separately or together with other sociology specialisations. Here are some of the themes selected by the organizers of migration sessions: Women Migrant Workers: Have They Protected? - aims to highlight legal and practical issues faced by migrant female workers and the need to set a legal framework to provide them protection against abuse and exploitation; Global Social Protection and Migration: Reproduction of Inequalities or Safety Net? – makes the connection between migration and social protection, exploring the way how migration responds to, and at the same time generates social inequity. Young qualified migrants will be represented in the group Young Skilled Migrants: Hopes and Struggles in New Global Trends – which looks at the obstacles faced by this category which holds a valuable human, social and cultural capital and which lies in between underprivileged and privileged migrants. Another session exploring the effects of youth migration upon the countries of origin from the gender perspective is Gender, Youth, and Migration: Modalities and Trajectories for Development. The topics debated could not leave aside the relation between migration and the quality of life, expressed as well-being and its determinants, within the group Migration and Well-Being.
The paper abstracts, of maximum 300 words, shall be uploaded online by 30 September 2015. Details on the themes and the Forum organisation are available at http://www.isa-sociology.org/forum-2016/. Sessions will be organized in English, French or Spanish.
