The Migration Policy Centre (MPC) has recently published the best essays of participants in the Migration Summer School 2013.
The authors of the essay "Unasked Questions and Missing Answers: the Italian National Health System and Chinese Migrants in Milan" - Annavittoria Sarli and Daniela Carrillo (ISMU Foundation, Milan, Italy) - aimed to investigate the knowledge, perceptions and use of the Italian health system by Chinese migrants living in Milan. Their essay attempts to identify weaknesses, strategic levers and challenges in the health system, in order to effectively meet the needs of these users.
Another essay, called "The Contributions of Highly-Skilled Migrants to the Development of their Country of Origin: Highly-Skilled Egyptian Migrants in the OECD Countries", written by Alessia Bacchi (Instituto Universitario General Gutiérrez Mellado, Madrid, Spain), studies the potential impact of Egyptian highly-skilled migrants residing in the OECD countries on the development of their country of origin.
The essay about "Immigrant Organizations and the Politicization of Cultural Diversity in the City" was written by Juan Carlos Triviño (Department of Political and Social Science, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona, Spain), who analysed the anti-Roma campaign in Badalona and the burka ban in public buildings in Lleida, Catalonia, Spain.
