The United Kingdom Independent Party (UKIP) plans to introduce compulsory health insurance for immigrants during their first five years of stay in the United Kingdom. According to UKIP representatives, this would prevent the risk of ill people being denied treatment.
According to theguardian.com, UKIP leader Nigel Farage said that tourists, students and all those moving permanently to the United Kingdom, except refugees, would need medical insurance before entering the country. Farage also said that such measures are not meant to deny medical aid to vulnerable people in need.
The political leader said that Britain could negotiate “reciprocal” healthcare arrangements with other European countries rather than necessarily requiring a new visa regime for each one.
However, the party that made this proposal has not yet set out precise details about how this would work.
