UN World Youth Report, 2013

Carmen Munteanu - Communications Coordinator

7 April 2014

The United Nations 2013 World Youth Report offers a broad understanding of the situation of young migrants from the perspective of young migrants themselves. The report highlights some of the concerns, challenges and successes experienced by young migrants based on their own life experiences.

The report focuses largely on the phenomena of international migration which has a significant impact on the origin, transit and destination communities. The consequences are complex and may be influenced by various factors such as: the type of migration, the category of migrants, national migration policies as well as local practices.

The Report has been drafted in an interactive manner, allowing you to navigate chapters individually. Each chapter actually contains information on previous chapters. The report structure considers both process dimensions and migration types.

Youth organizations working on migration have on several occasions requested the United Nations to look at the situation of youth migrants. The literature on youth migration and its impact in countries of origin and destination is sparse. This report attempts to fill this gap and offers a comprehensive account of the life experiences of young migrants. The report is useful both to youth organisations and young migrants and to political decision makers, to the academic environment and to the general public.
