Final Conference of CONTENTION Project
Mariana Andrei - Communication Coordinator
21 November 2014
CONtrol of DeTENTION (CONTENTION) is a project co-financed by the European Return Fund and developed in a partnership between European Migration Policy Centre - Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies within the European University Institute (EUI) and Odysseus Academic Network for Legal Studies and Asylum (Université Libre de Bruxelles - ULB). The project undertook a comparative analysis of pre-removal judicial control and detention practices in 11 EU member states.
The final conference of CONTENTION project will be held on 12 December 2014 in Brussels. The event aims to disseminate the project results, including a data base with case law on detention in 11 EU countries (more than 400 court decisions) and to stimulate debates around key concepts for the project, such as legality of detention, the consequences of state organization upon judicial control and the limits of judges' competence and power according to EU legislation.
The conference will also be an opportunity to launch the CONTENTION follow-up project: REDIAL, which aims to build a network of judges who deal with return cases and academics of Odysseus Network, in order to encourage specialised legal dialogue.
Persons interested to participate in the conference (lawyers, judges, state officials, academics, NGO representatives, researchers, students) are invited to register. No participation fee shall be levied. For more information on the conference programme and the registration method, please consult the source.
